Throughout my sewing adventures in the last few years, I’ve met some really great people and made some amazing friends. I’m honored to say that Kelly from Handmade Boy is one of those sew-friends of mine! She’s a fabulous maker, but an even more fabulous person. Why?
Kelly is running in a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital marathon and pledged to raise $1,000 for this very worthy cause. In the ultimate bout of creative thinking, Kelly decided to create a sewing pattern and donate 100% of the proceeds to her fundraising efforts for the run. Amazing, right??
Of course, I signed up to both test the pattern and participate in her blog tour. How could I not? I’d practically do anything that woman asks of me. Seriously. I would. I love Kelly.
The Fighter Tee is a unisex pattern, and is available in sizes 2T – 12. The fit is pretty relaxed and has a different silhouette than any of them in my current Louis-sewing arsenal. So it was a great addition. The side panels are a fun accent and provide the ability to color block in a different way than you’d usually think. It goes together super quickly and leaves your kiddo looking “so fresh”. (See what I did there?)
When Kelly says 100% of the proceeds, she really means it. The pattern only goes for $5 in her Etsy shop, and she did the math to figure out exactly how much she will be able to donate to St. Jude after the transaction and listing fees. Not a penny goes to her, even after all the hard work of drafting and making the adjustments to get this tee just right. What a woman!
Also. $5 for a professionally drafted tshirt pattern is a STEAL. Just saying.
Louis felt like a few “cool kid” and muscle poses were needed, once I told him the name of the pattern. Because Fighters are tough, you know?
There is a whole tour full of inspiration surrounding The Fighter Tee. I hope you make sure to hit up all of the bloggers and see what they’ve come up with! I know I will!
Thank you for being such an inspiration to us, Kelly!
